HAITI APPEAL
Many people of the Valley and Valence worked very hard to raise money for the victims of the earthquakes in Haiti.
People were invited to the lovely old house of Steepleton Manor for a Bring and Buy Sale of home made cakes, fresh eggs, jams and bric-a-brack. Hot bacon rolls, cakes and coffee for refreshment were also on sale.
The house and grounds looked very inviting in the spring sunshine, the snowdrops in bloom, the fountain playing and the very warm welcome made for a pleasant morning. Ameeting of old friends, a making of new friends and money raised - a great way to start a weekend.
On Friday, in Winterbourne Abbas, a private `Excess Clothing and Accessories' evening with food, was arranged by Joy Parsons and proved to be an enjoyable evening resulting in a great start to the weekends money raising efforts,
A previous donation of £300, together with the evenings efforts and Steepleton`s coffee morning means that £1056 has been contributed to the Haiti Appeal from the Benefice. The £300 has bought six Shelter Boxes and the £756 will follow for whatever is needed.
A wonderful joint effort of everybody working together, and our love and prayers go with the gifts.
Eileen Hobday.
